Day 5 Wardan Aboriginal Centre

Australian Aboriginal people have lived in the Margaret River region for more than 55,000 years. Their existence has been uncovered in archaeological digs in some of the local caves along the Leeuwin-Naturaliste ridge. Now, for the first time, their presence along the famous ridge of land has been formally recognised with the opening of a centre with the dual aims of education and protection of local Aboriginal heritage. The Wardandi people, who are the traditional owners of most of the land in the Margaret River area, have chosen to share aspects of their culture with visitors in an effort to increase understanding and reconciliation within the wider community.

Day 6 Surfing and Margaret River Town

Today we all become surfers! At surfing professional Josh Palmateers surfing school, we don wetsuits and with close instruction we go through the surfing basics. In no time at all you will be on your feet and feeling the rush of the wave pushing your surf board along the face. To make the course as fun and safe as possible we supply the surfboards, bodyboards and wetsuits. The surfboards are soft so that they are very safe. The children are taught in small and safe conditions. Each day we teach surf safety, surf awareness, surf etiquette and surfing skills ( paddling, standing up, turning, surfing manoeuvres ) All staff are qualified Surfing Australia Level 1 Instructors and are of the highest quality.

Day 7 Surfing and Caving

Another morning surf session, consolidating the skills learnt the day before. Today maybe you will get your first tube! After lunch we go into the subterranean world. Stalactites and stalagmites, do you know the difference? Giants Cave is one of the largest and deepest caves on the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge. It has a surveyed length of 575 metres and goes down to approximately 86 metres underground. We negotiate our way along staircases and the natural floor of the cave observing calcified tree roots, fantastic water creations and life in the subterranean world.
