Learn Safe Snow Hiking

School for 2 Days in Laponia

Fancy a snow course in Laponia? Why? To learn and be aware of dangers and hazards in hiking in Laponia and how to prepare for them, avoid them and think in a safe manner.

After completion, each student shall:
• Have an understanding of mountain safety procedures
• Have an understanding about personal safety, equipment and personal journey description
• Have practice in preparing a safe journey with consideration of dangers and weather conditions
• Have basic knowledge of snow orienteering and use of a compass with appropriate maps
• Know how to safely wade across mountain streams
• Know how to plan a simple wilderness trip safely
• Gain an understanding in mountain weather, wind and water
• Have insight in choosing appropriate gear for different trips, terrain and needs

Nocturnal Skiing

On a moonlit, starry night we will set out on our journey through the forest. There is a blue glow to the snow, and the shadows are long and we hope the Northern lights are on show.

Winter Fishing

Using forest skis we go out on the lake, drill holes in the ice and put out hooks for burbot and pike. Simple…..we catch our dinner.
