This was a trip that showed me that even I can help other children and how much I have to learn. But what fun we had too.

Swedish Trips
Just How Cold Can You be?
Remember this saying 'Any fool can be uncomfortable'. We're not fools - dressed appropriately and with all the activities, we'll have a ball; learning, doing, having fun and staying warm.
10 day Schedule
Day 1 To Stockholm, Sweden
Fly to Stockholm, Sweden.
Day 2 Welcome to Dundret, Lapland, Sweden
We arrive in Stockholm in the morning and have the option of flying straight to Gallivare, or catching the overnight sleeper train. After a short flight from Stockholm we arrive in Gällivare, 100 km north of the Arctic Circle and a 12 minute transfer brings us to Dundret, the ultimate skiing facility with well groomed slopes ideal for beginner and advanced groups. We have time to settle into our cabins, go for a swim, have a sauna or rest. The main hotel building - Björnfällan - houses a restaurant, sauna, pool and ski hire with a shop for the basics and souvenirs. The cabins are located adjacent to the lift system, so you can put on your skis or snowboard right outside the door. All cabins are equipped with a small kitchenette, TV, phone and bathroom with shower and WC.
Day 3 Ski School, Skiing, snowboarding, snowblading!
Up early in the morning we go to the ski hire shop to select our skis, boots, snowboard, snow blades, or whatever you want to use for our 5 days on the slopes. For the next three days there will be ski school in the morning where you will learn both basic and advanced skills enabling you to conquer the slopes. All the slopes are well-groomed and of a high standard. You can also get tips from the sports hosts and hostesses on improving your technique wherever you are in Dundret. In the evening we check out a traditional Satmi Kata tent complete with a roaring fire.
Day 4 Ski School, Snow shoeing
Your legs may be a little tired but that won’t stop us from having another great day on the slopes. In the morning ski school continues and then we see how much we have improved by testing ourselves on the beginners slalom course. No doubt there will be a few spills but that’s all part of skiing. In the late afternoon we don snowshoes and walk across to the 90 metre ski jump to view the local professionals soaring through the sky. They really do fly through the air!
Day 5 Ski School, Gallivare visit
Back to our morning ski school for more instruction and today we might just challenge ourselves on a more advanced ski run. In the evening we head to Gallivare to check out the shops, catch a movie, taste some local food and relax in the evening sun.
Day 6 Satmi—The Lapplanders and Ice Hotel
Today we give our legs a rest and have a day off from skiing and drive with reindeers and visit to a Sameviste - an authentic experience of an ancient culture. How did the Satmi/Lapps live in the past? How do they live now? What is a härk? At the foot of Dundret lies Repisvaara sameviste a Satmi/Lapp camp where you can get a taste of their culture and their nomadic way of life. You’ll hear about their costumes, their reindeer and crafts, which have become so renowned today. In the reindeer enclosure, the härkar (stags) are waiting to take you on your ride around a circular track. And just how good are you with a lasso? In the afternoon we visit the striking Icehotel for a coke in the ice (even the glasses are made of ice!). The massive ice structure and sculptures are impressive as soon as we walk into the foyer and we view the rooms, lounge, lobby, and how the hotel was constructed. A highlight is the stunning Chapel made from ice. Back at Dundret we try to build an igloo and for those that are keen you can even try sleeping in it for the night.
Day 7 Skiing and The Northern Lights
After a well earned day off its back to the skiing with further ski school for those that need it or just head out with your friends to conquer new runs. Why not try tobogganing today? Dundret lies 100 km north of the Arctic Circle, in the polar region so the Northern Lights can be seen and tonight we hope for an amazing show. The particles that create the northern lights come from the ionosphere, and have reached an enormous velocity due to the energy from solar winds. These particles are caught up by the earth’s magnetic field and steered towards the earth’s poles. When these particles reach the atmosphere, they collide with atoms in the atmosphere. Many people say the northern lights are the most beautiful spectacle in the world.
Day 8 Skiing
By now our skiing skills have improved to a stage where we are able to try some of the more difficult ski runs on Dundret. Once again we head to our slalom course for lots of fun and laughter in the Rift Valley Adventures Ski Cup. In a series of fun races against ourselves we crown the King and Queen of the mountain.
Day 9 Stockholm Shopping
After a wonderful 7 days at Dundret we return to Stockholm to view the city and do a bit of shopping. Today is your chance to buy those last minute items before we board our evening flight back to Nairobi.
Day 10 Home
Fly home with tired legs, but memories of a unique School Ski Trip.
Occasionally it may not be possible to follow the itinerary as planned. This may be for a variety of reasons - climatic, political, physical or other. In these circumstances we will make the best alternative arrangements possible that maintains the integrity of the original itinerary.
Trip Options
Overnight Train;
A great rail journey that leaves in the early afternoon from Stockholm and Gallivare and travels through spectacular scenery. A great way to unwind from the flight and arrive fresh for skiing or a wonderful way to finish the ultimate ski trip. The train has full sleeper cabins and is really a moving hotel.
Dog sledding – an experience with a difference
Travel by dog sled straight out into the winter landscape. Travel on nature’s terms, pulled by dogs that are eager and impatient to get going! But once the snow anchor is released, they fall silent. Then the only sound is the padding of their paws on the snow and the command calls of your driver. The journey takes us through forest, over frozen lakes and swamps sitting in large sleds with space for four people, drawn by 10-14 dogs. More...
Snowmobile tours – a sense of freedom
Guided tours through the Lappland wilderness on and around Dundret. Over frozen lakes and swamps, through forest and up on the mountain top. Our knowledgeable guides ensure that your safety and comfort are the prime considerations on these tours. Choose between short or long tours. Go on the Northern Lights tour and experience Aurora borealis (the Northern Lights) at the latitude where it’s visible most frequently. Experience authentic Sami/Lapp culture and have a close encounter with the Sami/Lapps themselves and their reindeer. We travel two to a snowmobile, unless you specifically request a solo ride.
You don’t have to worry about clothing. We’ll provide a waterproof overall, boots, gloves and a helmet. All tours start and end at Dundret Reception.
Ice climbing, mountain hiking
Join our experienced guides for exciting adventures. There are many alpine tours to choose between, from ice climbing to ascending summits. More...
Wilderness and ice-fishing
If you want to be in the "real" wilderness, you can come to the wilderness camp in Tjuonajokk. A fisherman's paradise, offering excellent ice-fishing. There are many good ice-fishing spots in the council district of Gällivare. In the Gällivare Fishing Guide the fishing associations and the fishing waters in Gällivare are presented.
Local Swedish School students interaction. The schools around Dundret have expressed great interest in participating in this Ski Trip. They would be happy to billet the students for a couple of nights, get together for disco, help them ski better and just get to know each other a little better.
Ice Skating
With a frozen lake in Dundret we can put on the skates and have some fun cruising around the ice in the evening.
