Hiking Creole Trip

Beautiful Natural Playground

7 Day Schedule

Day 1: To Mauritius International arrivals to island.

Day 2: Port Louis

Founded by French colonialists in 1935, with a harbour encircled by craggy peaks, Port Louis reeks of history from government house and the municipal theatre, to the mid-19th century market. We’ll go there for a bustling introduction to local life, before the Mauritius Institute to see the world’s most famous, extinct bird, the dodo.

Day 3: Surf’s Up

Sheltered Tamarin Bay is Mauritian surf-central with superb teaching and warm water waves for rookies.

Day 4 – 6: School and Family

Vive la différence! Rift Valley Adventures always immerse you in the culture of a destination and this gives students the chance to stay with French speaking pupils from a top local school, honing language skills and seeing how Mauritian education differs from home. Adults can also stay with a local family, polishing up rusty lingo and perhaps learning a few Creole dishes!

Day 7: Snorkelling

With famously clear water, multi-coloured accessible coral and prolific marine life, this is a great way to explore the ocean – and perhaps get a taste to do a diving course (one of our possible trip extensions)

Day 8-9: Hiking & Climbing,

The 6,574-hectare Black River Gorges National Park protects much of the island’s remaining native forest, and is thick with endemic plants and rare birdlife. Explore the dwarf forest and remaining heathland, before hiking to set up camp by the Black River. We’ll trek to viewpoints at Alexandra Falls, head over Bel Ombre and the park’s awesome Black River Gorges, and finish with an ascent of Black River Peak, the highest point on Mauritius at 828m.

Day 10: Home

Although we’ll happily extend the trip to take you to the adventure nerve centre of Réunion, or to include canyoning or a sea kayak expedition.
