This was a trip that showed me that even I can help other children and how much I have to learn.  But what fun we had too.

Aussie Rule Trip

9 Days in beautiful Western Australia

Learn to surf, the ways of the aboriginals, catch a barracuda, slap on a hat, slop on sunscreen and slip on a shirt – welcome to the land downunder.

Suggested Program

Day 1: To Perth

Day 2: Nanga Bush Camp

You may spot your first wild ‘roo’ as our team transfer your form the airport to the Nanga. It’s situated in a natural Jarrah Forest, with stacks of on site activities,  but you’ve got the first night free to recover.

Day 3: Wildlife and Boomerangs!

A guided walk around the camp tracking grazing roos and wallabies in the cool of the morning may end with a cooling dip in the Murray River. We’ll also learn how to – successfully! – throw a boomerang to make it return, how the aborigines survive in the harsh Australian climate and make some damper (bush bread). A night time mini safari will hopefully reveal some of the country’s prolific nocturnal wildlife, including possums, wallabies, wombats and perhaps, the rare banded numbat!

Day 4: Murray River Canoe

Canoe down the stunning Murray River and we may well see the red-tailed black cockatoo, even a sleeping koala. We’ll return to sample some of Nanga Camp’s many adventure and cultural activities.

Day 5: Wardan Aboriginal Centre

Archaeological digs in local caves show the Wardandi people have lived in the Margaret River region for over 55,000 years – and this centre aims to protect and educate visitors about their local heritage. The day has an option to climb and abseil at Willyabrup sea cliffs, where you could find yourself hanging off a rock face looking down on dolphins and whales!

Day 6: Surfing

At renowned pro ‘surfie’ Josh Palmateers’ school, we’ll don wetsuits and get into the Indian Ocean to learn the sport’s basics – with children taught in calmer, safer conditions. As well as getting up and riding the waves, the highly qualified instructors teach surf awareness, etiquette and safety.

Day 7: Surfing and Caving

Second day’s tuition, consolidating yesterday’s newly acquired skills. Perhaps you’ll catch your first tube today. After lunch we head down. And down. And down into a subterranean world, past stalactites and stalagmites, in the 86-metre deep Giants Cave, on the famous Leeuwin-Naturaliste ridge. Making our way along rock staircases and the cave’s natural floor, we’ll pass calcified tree roots and water sculpted stone formations - a fantastic echoing experience!

Day 8: Perth and the aquarium of Western Australia

A final day viewing the incredible marine life at AQWA, and come retail therapy in Perth.

Day 9: Head back home

The fun need not stop...

Trip extension including Kakadu National Park in the far north, Ningaloo Reef where you can walk straight from the beach to the coral, the historic Western Australia goldfields, Margaret River’s wineries, and, closer to Perth, Rottnest Island, with its sugary white beaches and historic Fremantle.
