Senior Staff Profile

Nicholas Miller – Managing Director. Born and in Australia, Nicholas has always had a passion for the outdoors and studied Geology and Outdoor Education at a tertiary level and possesses International qualifications in rockclimbing, abseiling, rafting, canoeing, wilderness first aid, risk management, group dynamics and other associated fields. Amongst other qualifications Nicholas is an approved British Army Adventure Training Instructor. He has designed and led over two hundred outdoor programmes in East Africa and Australia from 1995 to date and has worked for the Outdoor Education Group and Merribrook Development Training in Australia as a Group Leader, facilitator and instructor, Nokia Mobile Phones as a Corporate Training Manager in Australia and Hong Kong and finally set up the companies Outdoor Education & Training and Rift Valley Adventures.

Silas Makori - Field Manager. Trained by Outward Bound Kenya, Silas has been active in the International school programme scene in Kenya for 7 years. A reliable member of the Rift Valley Adventures team and a Gold Award Assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme. Over the years he has gained a great amount of experience and qualifications in many outdoor pursuits and attended Gold Award Assessor exchanges in the UK.

Dr. Juliet King – Scientific Coordinator. Having gained her PhD on Kangaroos and Wallabies in Australia, Juliet moved back to her homeland of Kenya and is currently an elephant and biodiversity consultant with many leading organisations including Save the Elephants and the Kenya Wildlife Service. Juliet’s scientific background, outdoor skills and her wealth of conservation knowledge are a welcome addition to any field study or other type of programme.

We have trained, and employ, many Kenyan’s from the local Kikuyu, Samburu, and Laikipiak Maasai tribes as instructors, naturalists and guides. Their knowledge of the bush and wildlife is eagerly shared with students.
