Kenya Explorer

A diverse educational trip offering the very best of Kenya.

Suggested Programme

A classic trip through the Great Rift Valley, the rugged terrain of Northern Kenya and the equatorial glaciers of Mt. Kenya; viewing wildlife, interacting with communities and learning about their cultures; swimming among colorful corals and dolphins; the ultimate Kenyan experience.

Day 1 To Nairobi

Day 2 Nairobi to Maasai Mara Arriving in Nairobi you are met by Rift Valley Adventures and transferred to the Maasai Mara. Your journey takes you high onto the wall of The Great Rift Valley with breathtaking views of the dormant volcanoes Mt. Longonot and Mt. Suswa. Your tents have been prepared at Let’s Go Safari tented camp and you have time to relax and enjoy the sounds of the wilderness before being taken on a guided walk. The evening is free to settle in and recover from your journey.

Day 3 & 4 Game Viewing in the Mara For the adventurous, an early rise for a morning game walk, a wonderful way to see the animals of the Maasai Mara. Over the next two days you have a chance to see some of Kenya’s amazing wildlife; elephants, lion, cheetah, leopard, rhino, giraffe, baboons, the list is endless!

Day 5 Mt. Kenya An early morning departure sees us drive to the central highlands and Mt. Kenya. Standing at 5199m, Mt. Kenya has permanent glaciers on the equator! Our walk takes us through thick montane forest, where you never know what you will see! We spend the night in cabins on the lower slopes of this spectacular mountain.

Day 6 Samburu Game Reserve We arrive at Samburu Game Reserve. Camping safari style we spend the late afternoon watching elephant and other game on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River.

Day 7 Save The Elephants Research Camp A morning talk by researchers at Save The Elephants gives insight into their valuable work on elephant conservation. After the talk we head off with the researchers, tracking elephants and learning the names, age, sex, and behaviour of the family groups of elephants that we see. A unique game viewing day when elephant and human become that much closer.

Day 8 Samburu Village Just outside the reserve boundaries we visit a Samburu village where we meet the elders and visit the local school. Children explain about their ‘Herding School’ where the teacher follows the boys out herding during the day and teaches lessons at night! Learn about the Samburu culture, how they live alongside wild animals, and see the beautiful beadwork of the women. A casual drive back through the reserve viewing Gerenuk, a long necked gazelle, lion and of course elephants.

Day 9 The Coral Coast After an early rise and clear views of the mountain peaks, we head to Nairobi for our flight to the coastal town of Mombasa. The afternoon is spent relaxing at Pinewood Village on the secluded white beach of Galu.

Day 10 Dolphin Dhow Amazing! Today a chance to swim with dolphins in clear blue water abounding with colourful coral and tropical fish in Kisite Marine Reserve.

Day 11 Mukurumuji Conservation Centre A one hour drive from Galu, we arrive at Mukurumuji nestled on the boundary of Shimba Hills National Park. A tranquil, relaxing atmosphere, views of the rare Sable antelope, and sounds of elephants rumbling as they roam between the tents at night.

Day 12 Mombasa-Nairobi-Home After breakfast and a last look at the view across to the elephants, depart for Mombasa, your flight to Nairobi and then on to UK.

Day 13 Arrive Home.

Extra days at the coast, Maasai Mara, Tsavo National Park, Nairobi-Mombasa Train.
