Uni Break
Kenya – Uni Break Itinerary
Here's how easily you could spend one month with us in Kenya.Laikipia Orientation
A chance to familiarise yourself with Kenya and the Laikipiak Maasai culture by visiting a manyatta – typical Maasai timber and cattle dung home.Grasp the basics of Swahili and Maasai languages, hear about traditions, mythology and hunting methods of the tribes you’ll meet during the visit, and try out local bush skills – lighting a fire with sticks and spear throwing.
You’ll also get to grips with some very unusual bush food and plant life, including the toothbrush and deodorant trees! Feeling creative? Then learn about the tribe member’s mesmerizing local jewellery and make your own beaded bracelet.
Community Project
It all depends on the project and what you want to do. We give you the flexibility to choose your project (see above) but you may find yourself working on much needed ablution blocks, classrooms or rainwater tanks for one of Il Motiok ranch’s Primary Schools or out with the camels showing conservation and health awareness videos to remote community groups. At the same time you’ll be taking part in…
- Wildlife counts of Il Motiok and Naibunga areas to discover the number of endangered grevy zebras. You’ll team up with rangers and local guides trained by Rift Valley Adventures to record information, enter it into conservation databases.
- Building community camps on outlying group ranches.
- Land Rehabilitation projects. After years of over-grazing by livestock and wildlife, the Laikipiak Maasai have launched rotational grazing schemes to avoid erosion.
