Experiential Adventure
An experience that is rich with achievements, physically and
mentally challenging, fun and loads of learning!
Suggested Programme
The outdoors has always been a fantastic medium for personal development,
and used safely through adventurous activities, a way of acquiring
skills and equipping people with the qualities needed for everyday
life. Concepts such as trust, responsibility, goal setting, teamwork,
leadership, and planning are highly sought after but not openly
taught in the school curriculum. These concepts can help broaden
a student in an holistic sense; socially, emotionally, physically
and morally.
Being in the natural environment and learning to become part of
it, not fight it is central to our philosophy. The Kenyan wilderness
provides us with a beautiful and challenging arena to deliver
high quality Experiential Programmes. Our base on Kijabe Group
Ranch in Laikipia district, is the perfect place for students
to challenge themselves. Students camp on this programme and
get involved in food preparation, cooking, cleaning and looking
after the welfare of all the team members.
Day 1 To Nairobi
Day 2 Nairobi to Kijabe Group Ranch
Arriving in Nairobi you are
met by a member of Rift Valley Adventures and transferred to Kijabe
Group Ranch. Your journey goes through Kikuyu villages and small
farms past the base of Mt. Kenya, complete with glaciers. Onwards
to Kijabe Group Ranch where we reach our campsite in the heart
of the Laikipiak Ndorobo tribal land. The Ndorobo live a traditional
lifestyle herding their livestock in the way they have done for
hundreds of years. After the programme brief, job roles are allocated
and there is time to relax and explore the wonderful expanse of
Kijabe.
Day 3 Team
Initiatives & Problem Solvers
Today
we explore group dynamic issues starting off on small problem solver
and initiative
exercises and gradually building our skills throughout the day.
The final activity is our Challenge course where we have combined
physical and mental activities in a natural environment where young
people can learn and understand leadership and team concepts. They
gain direct feedback and build confidence as competent leaders
and team members to improve themselves for their roles within school,
society and the future workplace.
Day 4 Lendille Trek
Lendille Peaks with its twin granite domes
is our destination today. Along the way you can learn from our
Samburu guide about how to survive on bush food and light a fire
with two sticks. Upon reaching Lendille the views over the northern
frontier are superb as are the abseils ranging in size from 10-70
metres!
Day 5 Local School & Kijabe
After an early morning mountain
bike ride we reach Kimanjo Primary School. The rest of the morning
is spent interacting with kids, gaining an insight into how a Ndorobo
child grows up in Laikipia. The school visit is usually the highlight
of every trip with a profound effect in the visiting students.
The afternoon is spent cycling to our camp on the Uaso Nyiro river.
Day 6 Rafting the Uaso
What better way to spend a day in Kenya
than paddling down the Uaso Nyiro River winding our way through
remote gorges. Wildlife abounds with monkey, bushbuck, waterbuck,
eland, impala, cheetah, giraffe and maybe we might see elephant
or the elusive leopard. Tonight camp is set up on the banks of
the river underneath the enormous Mugumo Trees.
